Chiapa de Corzo & Cañon del Sumidero

We will appreciate the natural grandeur of the Sumidero Canyon with a boat tour. We will journey through the canyon and discover one of the most spectacular places in Chiapas, observing the towering walls and the diverse flora and fauna of the region. After the tour, we'll have free time to explore the magical town of Chiapa de Corzo and enjoy a meal at one of its local restaurants.
Chiflón Waterfalls and Montebello Lakes

We'll visit Chiflón, where we'll ascend 1 km by vehicle to discover the Suspiro, Ala de Ángel, Arcoiris, and Quinceañera waterfalls, until we reach the impressive Velo de Novia waterfall. Afterward, we'll move on to Montebello, where we'll visit 3 to 4 lakes, including Cinco Lagos, Pojoj, and Tziscao (The International Lake). The latter is situated on the border between Mexico and Guatemala. Here, you can explore a Guatemalan handicraft market, opt for a rafting trip, and visit the orchid garden.
The Coffee Route

Live the experience of getting to know coffee plantations directly with coffee producers in Tenejapa, Chiapas. The experience includes a walk through the coffee fields, coffee bean picking, a visit to the area where coffee beans are processed, a demonstration of how to plant or renew new coffee plants, and finally, we plant coffee plants ourselves. A complete experience in the highlands of Chiapas!

Chiapas is a state located in Southern Mexico and borders the states of Oaxaca and Tabasco, and the country of Guatemala to the east.
Tuxtla Gutierrez International Airport (code: TGZ) is the largest airport in Chiapas, located in the state’s capital city of Tuxtla Gutierrez, Mexico.
San Cristóbal de Las Casas is situated on the central plateau of the Chiapas Highlands at an elevation of 6,900 feet (2,100 meters).

Is the instructor a native speaker?
Absolutely, Olaf Morales was born and raised in Chiapas, Mexico, where he spent his formative years. Approximately seven years ago, he relocated to Todos Santos, BCS, Mexico, assuming the role of language coordinator at CSU Todos Santos.
What is his qualification?
Olaf Morales possesses a Master's degree in ELT (English Language Teaching) from the University of Southampton, accompanied by a certification in Spanish Language Teaching (ELE) granted by Oxford House Barcelona. With over 15 years of experience, he has adeptly instructed in both English and Spanish while also providing valuable assistance to fellow educators in advancing their professional journeys.
What level of Spanish do I need?
For the upcoming Summer of 2024, prospective participants interested in the Spanish immersion program are required to possess a minimum upper basic level of proficiency. While this serves as the baseline, it is highly recommended to have reached an intermediate level or to have engaged with Spanish language learning for a duration of at least one year prior to the commencement of the course. This approach ensures an enriching and comprehensive experience throughout the program.
What is the maximum number of students per cohort?
In order to foster an environment conducive to effective learning and active engagement, each cohort of our Spanish immersion course will be limited to a maximum of 12 students.
Where should I fly in?
Participants are advised to arrive at Tuxtla Gutiérrez International Airport (TGZ), the designated airport for arrivals. Conveniently, there are multiple connections available from major airports across Mexico, including Mexico City International Airport (MEX), Cancun International Airport (CUN), and Guadalajara Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla International Airport (GDL).
Where is the course taking place?
The Chiapas Summer 2024 Spanish immersion course will be hosted in San Cristobal de las Casas, situated within the Central Highlands region of Chiapas. Renowned for its meticulously conserved colonial architecture and vibrant indigenous communities, this location offers a unique backdrop for our program.
Are the rooms shared with other students?
Each participant will enjoy the comfort of a private room and bathroom. Additionally, provisions for couples' lodging will also be available for those attending together.
Are all the meals included in the program?
The course covers the majority of meals (breakfasts and lunches) throughout its duration. Nevertheless, dinners are not included in the package, affording participants the flexibility to explore various dining options in town.

The Spanish immersion course offers an early bird fee of $2,785 USD valid throughout 2023 (with a regular price of $2,900 USD for the year 2024). Participants are given the opportunity to secure their spot by submitting a 50% initial payment, with the remaining balance conveniently divided into two installments to be paid during the span of 2024.

Typical daily high temperatures hover around 70°F, seldom dipping below 65°F or surpassing 73°F. Daily lows average around 51°F, rarely dropping below 48°F or rising above 54°F. The lowest recorded daily average low temperature stands at 50°F.
What do I need to wear?
Cotton attire will provide sufficient warmth. San Cristóbal de las Casas boasts a cool climate. It's advisable to have a sweater or jacket on hand. Given the rainy season between July and October, including a waterproof jacket or coat in your packing is recommended.
